2011-2012 Volunteer of the Year – Dave Schott

2011-2012 ADK-GVC Volunteer of the Year: Dave Schott
By Bruce Tehan, 2011-2012 Chapter Chair

During a spring 2012 executive committee meeting of ADK-GVC it was mentioned that we would soon need a new publications chairperson. There was a collective groan from the EC because it is hard to find a volunteer to do this job as it requires a lot of work and skill. There was someone who several EC members knew would do the job very well but we were hesitant to ask him because he was already volunteering his time for the club in so many ways. Well, it turned out we did not need to ask him. Without hesitation, upon hearing of the opening, he volunteered to take on the position. His name is Dave Schott and he is our chapter’s 2011-2012 Volunteer of the Year.

Dave Schott This award goes to the person that has contributed the most for our chapter during the past year and Dave certainly achieved that distinction. Here is a partial list of things Dave has been doing for the club this last year. He has led hikes, paddles and extended outings for the club. He has served as co-chair and is now the solo chair of the younger members committee. He has been a very active member of the waterways committee and has been an important part of our chapter’s biggest event Outdoor Expo. He is, of course, our new publications chair and is thus responsible for the outstanding Geneseeans we have been reading recently.

I could go on and on about all the things Dave has done for the club. He is constantly volunteering for all sorts of other projects or committees regarding our chapter. No matter what the task, Dave performs it extremely well. His well-articulated thoughts, his hard work, his abundance of talent, and his genuine kindness and enthusiasm have been of great value to our club. It is my great honor to designate Dave Schott as the 2011-2012 ADK-GVC Volunteer of the Year.
