Backpacking
Due to the shortness of most local trails
and since most are through private land, there are no real backpacking
opportunities in the 9 county region covered by OAG. Since backpacking
is generally a 2-5 day experience, travel of 1-3 hours is not
unreasonable. In that context, there are excellent backpacking
opportunities in western and central New York, especially the southern
tier, and in north-central Pennsylvania. The reader is referred to the
sources for backpack trail descriptions listed in the table below, which
can be ordered by local outdoor stores such as EMS and Tent City.
