For the past 18 years in Genesee Valley chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club has put on a one day Outdoor Expo at Mendon Ponds Park by the beach. This year it's Saturday, June 13th from 9am to 4pm. This is not a fund raiser for the club, actually one of the few rules is no sales are allowed except food, there is not even an attendance fee. It's just open to whomever wants to stop by and enjoy themselves. The purpose of this event is to provide people in the community that are thinking about getting out and enjoying the outdoors, the chance to meet other people with the same interests, learn a few of the basic skills to be safe, try something new and have fun!

We invite other local outdoor clubs and vendors to come set up a table, booth or tent; perhaps do a demonstration. Anything they feel they have to offer is pretty much fair game. Past years have included such things as hang gliders, hot air balloons and gliders. Every year this Expo has grown, both in size and attendance, based mainly on feedback from the attendees and participants. This year we have over 50 different organizations providing lover 70 workshops, so there's plenty for everyone! Always popular are workshops such as map & compass, hiking opportunities in Monroe County, outdoor activities with kids and the ever popular beach; where local canoe and kayak vendors bring boats to test drive; all for free!

For the more experienced, we have things such as winter backpacking, wilderness survival and how to dehydrate food for backpacking. Again our goal is something for everyone!
